The Vixens Will Be Preforming The Annual Running Of The Bulls And Giving Back To The Community With The Help Of The Mended Little Hearts
Jackson, Miss. (March 23, 2011) – The Magnolia Roller Vixens, Jacksons roller derby team, are at it again, this time in partnership with the Sweet Potato Queens, hosting the annual “Running of the Bulls” prior to the Sweet Potato Queen’s Zippity Doo Dah Parade this weekend in Fondren.
The Vixens will kick off the event at 6:00 p.m., prior to the Running of the Bulls in the Woodland Hills Parking Lot, near the stadium and facing State Street. They will be presenting care packages to the Mended Little Hearts Foundation of Mississippi, an organization that helps critically ill children adjust when entering into Pediatric Cardiac Programs at Blair E. Batson. The packages consist of books titled Curious George goes to the Hospital.
After the presentation, the Vixens will take to the streets of Fondren for the annual “Running of the Bulls” around 6:30 p.m. The team will don their usual skating attire with the addition of horns and armed with nerf bats, as they are corralled in a pin waiting to be released. Upon their release, the Vixens will take to the streets, chasing brave contributors up and down the streets of Fondren in order to clear the way for the Sweet Potato Queen’s Zippity Doo Dah Parade. All proceeds for this event will go to the Sweet Potato Queen’s – Blair E. Batson fund.
To ensure the events success, the Vixens will be joined by a few Roller Derby friends from Alabama, Hattiesburg, and Columbus. Some 40 skaters are expected in all – and they will be armed and ready to roll!
Interview and photo opportunities will be available starting at 5:30 at the Vixen staging area in the Woodland Hills Parking Lot. Other important Magnolia Roller Vixens dates include:
- April 16, home game against the Hub City Derby Dames, Hattiesburg
- May 21, against the Torpedo Bay Roller Girls from Mobile, Ala.
- June 4, against the Capital Offenders, Baton Rouge, La.
