Try Out

Next Assessment Date:

Please check back here often for the next try-out date.

We’re looking for beginner-experienced skaters ages 18 and up. If you have any questions, please email freshmeat@magnoliarollervixens.com. Please bring any equipment you may already have, including pads and skates. We have pads and skates you can borrow if you don’t have any equipment, however, you must bring your own mouthguard. We will not let you skate without the appropriate safety equipment, ESPECIALLY A MOUTHGUARD. Safety equipment: Helmets, wrist guards, knee pads, elbow pads, mouthguards.

Begin thinking about what capacity you will serve as. Skater? Referee? Both are awesome and very important to the growth of our league.

Come prepared to show us your skills, willingness to learn, and awesome attitude! We can’t wait to meet you!!!

Already a rollergirl or referee?

Are you a skater or ref from another league who has moved to the Jackson area? We are accepting transfers from other leagues! Please email freshmeat@magnoliarollervixens.com for more information.

How to prepare for tryouts?

  • Come to Open Practice. We have open practice every Wednesday at 7pm at the Clinton National Guard Armory (1500 E. Northside Dr, Clinton, MS). This is a great way to meet the members of the league and view what an average practice is like. For Junior Derby, open practice is on Thursdays at the Brandon National Guard Armory (192 Highway 468, Brandon, MS) at 7pm.
  • Sign up for the MRV email newsletter. Join our newsletter to get the latest information about the league. We will also post dates for tryouts via the newsletter.  Join here.
  • Volunteer at bouts or events. By volunteering at bouts and events, you are showing commitment to the league.  This is noticed and will be taken into consideration when narrowing down new recruits!
  • Fill out our Freshmeat Forms. Download the freshmeat forms here. Fill these out then turn them in by emailing freshmeat@magnoliarollervixens.com or bringing them with you to try-outs.
  • Purchase equipment. We will have a few skates and pads that you can borrow at try-outs (Email freshmeat@magnoliarollervixens.com to see if we have your size). However, it would be best if you have your own skates and pads to use.  You can view a list of retailers for skate equipment in the Freshmeat Forms Packet.
  • Practice, Practice, PRACTICE! We encourage you to work on your basic skating skills before coming to tryouts.  You can do this by skating at the local skating rinks. We also have group skates at the Natchez Trace when the weather is nice.  Email freshmeat@magnoliarollervixens.com for dates and more info.
  • Study the rules. Read over the latest WFTDA rules and get familiar with how the game is played.
